Many breeds blow their undercoat during season changes, this is when your house all of the sudden becomes a mess of pet hair. Brushing your cat or dog will remove the loose hairs before they fall to the floor. Brushing cats and dogs will remove any tangled or knotted hair. When you brush your pet’s hair it also helps to evenly distribute natural oils, keeping their skin moisturized and healthy. How frequently should I brush my dog’s hair? We get this question a lot. The answer is: it depends.
Long-haired dogs can benefit from daily dog grooming if you have the time. Short-haired dogs can get away with less frequent dog brushing. Ultimately there is no such thing as brushing too frequently so long as you’re using the right technique and not going over the same spot too many times. We recommend brushing dogs several times a week with a minimum of once per week. If you’re brushing a long-haired dog we want to at least be brushing a couple times. It’s difficult to set minimums and maximums without taking into account all factors of what makes your dog unique. How frequently should I brush my cat? This question is a little less common. We know cats groom themselves, but both you and your cat can benefit from supplemental cat grooming. Most people think hairballs aren’t a big deal since they’re so common…think again. Cat’s swallow a lot of hair into their little stomachs while they’re grooming themselves and the more loose hair they have, the more they consume. Hairballs can turn into intestinal blockages amongst other health issues, not to mention a mess on your floor. If your cat is coughing up a hairball it’s definitely time for a cat brushing. Just like dogs, brushing your cat daily can be beneficial. For long-haired cats we recommend daily cat brushing to prevent irreversible tangles. For short-haired cats once a week is totally fine, however, brushing cats more frequently will only benefit your feline friend.
