How Frequently Should I Bathe My Dog?

Dog bath frequency depends on a number of factors. The dog’s breed, health, coat type, activity level as well as what trouble they got themselves into for the day(i.e. a mud bath…) all play a role. If your dog smells musty or is clearly dirty, it’s definitely time for a dog wash. Dogs should NOT be bathed more than once per week as it will dry out their skin. Most dogs fall into the once per month category, although some dogs with oily skin may need a bath as frequently as once per week. No matter the case, we recommend bathing your dog at least once every three months. We know finding a time for a bath can be difficult, that’s why we decided to go mobile! To reach the optimum dog wash frequency without wasting any time, call up our mobile dog grooming service vehicle which covers most all of southern Maine!

Portland Maine Pet Grooming Process

At Portland Pet Grooming we like to make the dog bathing process feel like a spa treatment. First we’ll start by brushing your dog to remove any tangled or matted hair. Then it’s time to jump in the tub. After wetting their hair we’ll massage a specially formulated dog shampoo into their coat. We like to think of ourselves as dog masseuses during this process, the most important part of a dog wash is making sure they don’t run off, a rejuvenating massage is a perfect way to encourage them!

We start at the shoulders, then work our way to the paws once they’re in a relaxed state. Then we rinse and repeat the process with our special conditioner for dogs which will leave their coat feeling soft and fluffy. Of course they’ll get a treat for being such a good dog!
